Laurel Boeck recently unveiled portraits of the Honorable Congressman Joseph Barton, U.S. House of Representatives, Chairman, Committee of Energy and Commerce and Dr. Arden Bement, of the National Science Foundation.

Gregory Montfort Dearth recently unveiled the official portraits of Ohio Northern University President Kendall Baker and his wife, Toby in the president’s residence on the ONU campus. The portraits were commissioned by James Dicke II, the Chairman and CEO of Crown Equipment.

Robert Maniscalco was selected as the subject of a "High Profile" feature in the Post & Courier in Charleston, South Carolina, Saturday, Nov. 3rd for the front page of the Features section. Check the Post and Courier (on Saturday) online at http://www.charleston.net. His latest portrait, Judge Anna Diggs Taylor of the U.S. 6th District Court of Appeals, was presented in early November.

Jo Sherwoods’s artwork will be featured in a Chinese/American Cultural Exchange Exhibition, entitled The Disappearing Cultures of Rural China at The Wilshire Ebell Fine Art Gallery in Los Angeles, California on January 19 - 20, 2008 from 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.  This exclusive exhibit of 20 oil paintings depicting traditional communities in China's isolated mountain villages, are presented in celebration of the forthcoming 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Several Portrait Society members are showing work in a group portrait show at the Wayne Art Center near Philadelphia. Garth Herrick and Alex Tyng presented simultaneous 2-hour demos in connection to the show for a crowd of about 40 people.  The invitational exhibit, entitled Portraiture: A Philadelphia Tradition, ran through November 16th.  The list of featured Portrait Society members included:

Shelley Kolman Smith unveiled her latest sculpture and first public work in Plano, Texas at Preston Park Village Shopping Center (Corner of Preston and Park Blvd).   He was honored yesterday at a ceremony that was attended by his colleague's and family. 

    The sculpture was placed among three granite fountains and a beautiful clock. 

Alex  Tyng’s portrait of Dr. Constantine Papadakis, President of Drexel University, was unveiled June of this year.  The unveiling took place in the garden of the president of Drexel's Board of Trustees. It's the same portrait that received the Certificate of Excellence at the 2007 Art of the Portrait conference in May.

Wesley Wofford recently installed a bust of actor and director Carl Reiner in the Emmy Hall of Fame Plaza in Burbank, California.  Wesley was commissioned by The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to add to their collection of over 30 bronzes.  The sculpture conveys not only the actor’s visage but gives homage to his writing, directing, and storytelling skills.

Susan Foster was given the Bowles Endowment for Excellence in Portraiture, at the Faces And Figure show currently being held at the Punta Gorda Art Center.

Igor Babailov shared with us exciting news about the induction of his portrait of the late Frederick Hart, American sculptor and recipient of the National Medal of Arts, into The Pope John Paul II Cultural Center’s museum in Washington, DC on October 27, 2007.

Linda Dulaney is featured in a 12 page article about the Bay Area Classical Artist Atelier in American Artist magazine.  The article, titled “BACAA: Classical Training From Contemporary Masters,” is in the Fall 2007 issue on drawing.

Rich Nelson was featured in an article in December’s American Art Collector, titled “Blue Ridge Beauty” showcasing his show at the Edward Dare Gallery in Charleston.

Marian Flahavin received the Art Spirit award, the gold medal for Pastel in the 79th Grand National Exhibition of the American Artists Professional League juried show in New York with her painting, She Opens the World.

Joseph Anthony Pearson has been awarded an artist service award from Louisiana State Arts Council.  Joseph says, “I will be using the grant money to organize a series of public demonstrations to promote portrait painting.”    He has already hosted one demonstration in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Irene Bailey has been chosen as one of the 100 Incredible East Carolina University Women of the last 100 years.  The 100 women were honored October 17th at a luncheon called A Legacy of Leadership: 100 Incredible ECU Women, as part of ECU’s Centennial Celebration.

Michele Rushworth was selected to paint the official portraits of the three living former governors of Wyoming. Earlier this year she also painted the official portrait of the governor of Nevada and last year completed the official portrait for the governor of Washington State.

Marion W. Hylton’s pastel painting, Sunset on the South Rim which recently won the Grand Canyon Association Purchase Award in the current Paint America Paint The Parks Top 100 show.  She also won the Art Spirit Foundation Gold Medal in Pastel for her pastel painting, Old Roses.         

William A. Schneider's paintings Budding Artist and Evening Chore have been selected as finalists in the Portrait and Figure category of the 24th Annual Artist's Magazine Art Competition.  Competition winners will be featured in the December 2007 issue of the magazine.  Evening Chore also won Best of Show at the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society’s BEST of America! 2007 National Juried Exhibition. 

Johanna Spinks’s painting Sienna placed first at the Portrait Society of Atlanta's Fall Juried Exhibition.  Sienna was also recently a finalist in the Oil Painters of America’s 16th National Juried Show at the prestigious Whistle Pik Gallery in Fredricksburg, Texas.

John Ennis authored an article in the Aug/Sept issue of International Artist Magazine. More than a dozen of his paintings are featured, including several Portrait Society award-winning works.  John is also a Finalist in The Artist's Magazine 24th Annual Art Competition, Portrait and Figure category for his painting Limoncello. The painting will be featured in The Artist's Magazine's 2008 Calendar.

Lisa Gleim received 2nd place in the Southeastern Pastel Society's Members' Exhibition for her pastel portrait of her dog, Aslan. The same portrait also received an Honorable Mention in the Pastel Society of America's Member Exhibition at the Eastern Shore Arts Association this spring.
